Who’s to blame? If we pause to ponder the seemingly innate human tendency to identity and place blame, we may uncover that by ascribing fault, we hope to unravel the complexities of existence and appease our desire for order. But blame is the illusory pursuit of certainty in an inherently uncertain world. Blame, at its core, is built upon the notion of singularity—a belief that a single individual, entity, or circumstance bears the burden of causality. Yet our lives are entangled tapestries of interconnectedness sewn together by events, choices, and external forces. In recognizing the futility of blame, might we open ourselves to a more compassionate perspective, embracing the complexity of existence and acknowledging our shared vulnerabilities? Perhaps our true goal should be to strive for empathy. Only in the absence of blame can we walk upon fertile ground together toward a more harmonious world.
