Today, we are seeing continued and unprecedented demand across all types of technology become more severe, as the economy continues to grow. As you might hear in the news, the entire technology industry continues to be faced with severe shortages in raw materials and component parts. There are three areas causing the most challenges:

Logistical challenges & unreliable shipment dates – In addition to the product/component/raw materials shortages, global logistics is suffering from severe bottlenecks across all methods of transport. This impacts the predictability of shipment dates as well as increases lead times and costs to ship across all industries.

Limited availability, increased timelines – Unfortunately, these shortages and logistic challenges are severely limiting what hardware is available for us to deliver to you in a timely manner. Even orders which have already been placed are sometimes later being cancelled. We are seeing standard ship times of 6-8 weeks across all major manufacturers. Servers and networking equipment often take up to 12 weeks.

It isn’t just a GadellNet problem – This supply issue is not unique to GadellNet. It is affecting all major manufacturers like Apple and Lenovo, their distributors and all their downstream partners, like us. Our Procurement Team continues to work tirelessly to keep critical items available in our inventory and is closely monitoring the situation so that we can adapt as quickly as possible.

We’re looking out for you

Our team will continue to guide you with a 24-month roadmap of hardware and software that will be going end of life in 2022-2023. You’ll need to be aware of and work with us as we plan for changes such as Windows Server 2012 being unsupported by Microsoft starting in October 2022.

What do I recommend?

1. Plan proactive replacements of your laptops and desktops – I recommend a 4-5 year lifecyle.

2. Evaluate future employee needs, so shortages and extended timelines do not impact hiring processes. In today’s aggressive job market, you don’t want to risk delaying a hire because of a computer delay.

3. Watch and adjust equipment lifecycle timelines to adapt to the current reality.

4. Keep a couple of good spare devices in your office for emergency situations.

5. Review your IT roadmap and adjust project start times to accommodate extended lead times. We suggest at least three months.

Any action you can take to avoid being “in a pinch” for technology will minimize the impact to your organization. GadellNet is here to help and I will continue to keep you updated.
