During the last twelve months, the dynamic of working, learning, and playing from home has led to unprecedented levels of demand across all kinds of technology including PCs, tablets, Smart Devices, displays, phones, TVs, game consoles, and even cloud infrastructure. According to the IDC, the North American Commercial and Consumer PC markets have grown more than 50% year over year. As a result, the entire technology industry is now faced with severe shortages in raw materials and component parts.
In addition to the shortages, global logistics is suffering from severe container and capacity shortages across all methods of transport. This impacts predictability of shipment dates as well as increases lead times and costs to ship across all industries.
Unfortunately, these shortages and logistic challenges is severely limiting what hardware is available to order in a timely manner. Even orders which have already been placed are sometimes being cancelled. We are seeing standard ship times of 4-6 weeks across all major manufacturers. Servers and networking equipment may take up to 5-8 weeks.
Unfortunately, this supply issue is not unique to GadellNet. It is affecting all major manufacturers like Apple and Lenovo, their distributors and all their downstream partners, like us. That is why we are reaching out, to help with what we can control – which is time and planning. Our Procurement Team is working hard to keep some critical items available in our inventory and is closely monitoring the situation so that we can adapt as quickly as possible.
What can you do today? Work with your Account Manager to:
- Check devices regularly for performance issues and plan proactive replacements ahead of when they will be needed.
- Evaluate future employee needs, so shortages and extended timelines do not impact hiring processes.
- Monitor and adjust equipment lifecycle timelines.
- Keep a couple of spare devices in your office.
- Review your IT roadmap and adjust project start times to accommodate extended lead times.
Any action you can take to avoid being “in a pinch” for technology will minimize the impact to your organization.
Your Account Management team at GadellNet is here to help. We will continue to keep you updated. Please reach out to your Account Manager with additional questions or concerns!
